Wonder and great place for foodies. Family owned and operated. My usual is the barbacoa tacos on corn. The food is always good and consistnet. The service is always fast and personal. I also love the decor. The Maggies folks also own a supermercado kitty corner from the resturant.

BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN GR! Authentic and simple, they even carry Mexican coke. My favorite is the beef cheek taco w/ pico, I crave it often. Maggie will probably take your order. Give it a try!

The most authentic Mexican food in West Michigan. I'm sure we have all visited On The Border but if you want REAL authentic food...head to Maggies. The atmosphere and bussle of the kitchen will not disappoint. When you take that first bite, if all you are used to is ethnic chain resturaunts this is something you may not be ready for. This is the way it was always meant to be.

You know how you can tell a Mexican place that's gives a damn? It's when you see the owner back there every day. Hell yeah. That's how. Before I found Maggie's Kitchen, I used to swear by Hot Tamale in East Grand Rapids. Word has it the owner made enough dough and split town. And ever since I was crushed. I hit the bottle and got depressed... I lost years of my life! Then I found Maggie's Kitchen and things have been on the upswing for me. I've kicked the bottle, I've found love, and I make a solid living working from home, doing nothing!!! Well, that's not quite the truth, but it's close. Maggie's was a great find and I know I'm not alone. It's a busy spot, every day! They do a great breakfast (try the Huevos a la Mexicana), lunch is superb, and dinner, yup, good on that too. The portions are large, the food is fresh, the variety of salsa is dandy, and the room is perfect. We're all here for the food, no bones about it. Tip: share dishes, and order a lot!

Don't bother with Little Mexico's cheese-doused entrees, ridiculous waiter getups and tacky, unauthentic atmosphere. Go right across the street, because Maggie's Kitchen is where it's at. None of the Americanized BS. Reasonable prices ($5 for 2 yummy tacos). Helpful staff--the first time there, I didn't know what to order so the man behind the counter said "tell me what you like and we'll find something for you." I ended up with chorizo tacos w/ sliced avocado. I highly suggest the corn tortillas! The food is fresh, and I left there with the full-from-healthy-food feeling, not the I-just-ate-Mexican-food feeling. The restaurant itself is clean, a little plain, but with some cool decorations. My one and only gripe are the limited hours--it closes at 7, and I would probably become a regular if they were open later.

This is the most authentic Mexican restaurant in the area. I am always pleased with the fare. If you are looking for TRULY authentic Mexican, this is your place. If you are looking for souped up, spicy, Gringo-ized Mexican, go to Beltline Bar and Grill or On The Border. Although I have had most of the meat/tacos on the menu, I still prefer plain, 'ol chorizo, patatas, y huevos. Reminds me of my Abis.

Maggie's Kitchen may be nothing fancy, but that tells you they concentrate their efforts on making delicious and authentic food for a great price. Take time to read through the descriptions of the menu items. Many of my friends only ordered things they knew of or could see a picture of. Go out on a limb - tostadas are difficult and messy to eat anyway! I ordered the Torta de Chorizo. I'll be back for more of their chorizo!

To say that Maggie's Kitchen is the only and most authentic Mexican food in West Michigan is completely false. El Granjero is much better. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan, but have visited much less since I discovered El Granjero right down the street. Maggie's has great food, but the hours are terrible. It is more of a lunch/breakfast place. They're closed on Monday's, the prices are pretty high for the portions as well. The best deal is the torta. El Granjero is open 7 days a week, has a bigger more extensive menu, better hours, cheaper prices, and bigger portions. I loved Maggies when I first found it, but because El Granjero is just as authentic and a much better deal in every aspect, it's hard to justify going to Maggie's. If your in the mood for great Mexican, you can't go wrong with either, but El Granjero is better in every way.

BEST Mexican food since moving from California. It's authentic and flavorful. I moved here almost two years ago (to the U.P.) and have missed authentic Mexican food. It's nearly impossible to find anything that compares to what we had in Southern California. We were in GR for an appointment and asked if there were any good Mexican places and this was recommended to us as the "best Mexican in GR". She was absolutely right! It's the best Mexican I've had since moving to Michigan. We will definitely visit again anytime we are in the area.

Every sunday after church my family goes here and we love it. I always get the same thing.. cheese enchiladas. But they are my favorite in town. Very friendly staff and maggie is a gem! I think it is a bit over priced but i dont mind its a local tasty family restaurant.

Best bang for your buck. This place has great ambiance and friendly service. Best kept secret in Grand Rapids. Call ahead if you're in a hurry because it gets super busy. I definitely recommend the barbacoa tacos and wet burritos. Not fast food. Beats Adobe hands down!

I just moved here from Phoenix, AZ where mexican food restaurants are on every corner next to the local Starbuck's. before moving to Grand Rapids I had never heard of this "wet burrito" everyone raves about. It seems like everywhere I go the mexican food that people serve is this "wet burrito". Sorry to tell you Grand Rapids, but that's your thing, I don't believe Mexican's even know what a wet burrito is. When going to Maggie's they serve no such thing. I have been there three times and each time the experience was positive, service and food was excellant. This whole in the wall is exactly the kind of food I was hoping to find. I love their Verde (green) Salsa. Thanks Maggie's for giving me a place away from home that I hoped for.

Maggie's is great! It has such a great vibe and a true family feel to it. The restaurant is quite large and the people there are amazing. Have you met Maggie? Make sure you say hi! The food is really great. They probably have one of the best pico de gallo in town! Its got a great subtle heat to it. The tacos are great, their tortas are good too, and their platos are quite big. The prices are great. I have never had issues with ordering in English. They are quite fluent in both languages (there is at least one person at all times). Oh and they offer college discounts of some sort...free side of rice or beans or something... go and find out for me! You will not regret it!

Great food in an "almost fast food" type of setting. Tons of seating. Great for take out also.

Nothing special. Wait, they do serve two corn tortillas with a taco ($2.50 each). That's as far as it goes. They actually offer flour tortillas too if maize is too ethnic for you. The chicken was dry and flavorless. The pork ("puerca") roja was not exciting or wonderful either. Please add spices everyone. Mexican doesn't need to be spicy, but it does need to be flavorful, doesn't it? If you like the bland stylings of Taco bob's in Kalamazoo, Maggie will be your cup of limonada. And they don't serve horchata, so don't ask.

This is the only authentic Mexican food in Grand Rapids in my opinion. Their Chili Verde is to so delicious. The only thing on their menu I'm not a huge fan of is the barbacoa, but only because it is very greasy. Food is fantastic They will often get your order wrong because many of the workers don't speak English very well (this is a good thing when at a Mexican restaurant). Hours vary and it seems they close a lot for very random reasons.

I just went there for the first time today after wanting to try it for quite a while. I had heard great things and was not disappointed. The chips and salsa were a good starter, not the paper thin chips that come from a lot of Tex-Mex restaurants imitating authentic Mexican dishes. We ordered a tamale plate with two large spicy pork filled tamale with rice and beans, and a beef cheek burrito with cilantro and onions. The tamale were some of the best I've had, full of flavor and great spice. Even the sides of beans and rice, which often seem overlooked and bland had a lot of flavor. My partner's beef cheek burrito was a bit greasy but tasted great. I can't say fore sure, but I believe the tortilla was homemade. For both dishes, chips and salsa, and two drinks it was only about 21.00, very reasonable for the portions and quality of the food. Best and most authentic Mexican food in GR, hands down.

Hmmm, I know I've had better. All I could find that sounded pretty good is Nachos Supreme. My husband got tostadas and thought they were ok. That's it. I'm more of a wet burrito, enchilada kinda girl but cannot get that at Maggie's. I guess I don't know what authentic Mexican food is as it all tasted pretty bland. We loved the Alma Latina on Division but since that's gone we now go to El Burrito. It was worth checking out Maggie's though because you never know unless you try it. I must say the people that work there are very pleasant and friendly. Oh and they close early, like 7ish on Saturday night.

If you're looking for good Mexican food, this is the absolute best and most authentic you're going to find in West Michigan. I've had most everything on the menu and can even vouch for the dishes that contain meat because I still ate it when I discovered this wonderful place. I highly recommend the breakfast items. The chorizo, patatas, y huevos, served with refried beans, and rice is amazing.

maggie's kitchen is pretty good. they have the best/most authentic mexican food that i've come across in west michigan (i'm a california native and mexican food snob, kind of). the veggie burrito and veggie taco were both delish. although the red salsa doesn't taste great with the chips, it meshes perfectly with the burritos. the salsa verde also goes well with the burritos. i'd recommend asking for the salsa fresca if you're getting chips. hooray!

I spent most of the day driving around Grand Rapids visiting as many authentic mexican in town trying one taco at a time. Maggies was my first stop. Whoa. I had the barbacoa torda. Wow was it fantastic! The meat just melts in your mouth. Very fresh avacoda and the bread was fresh and delicious. We people of Grand Rapids truley are blessed to have a place like this. I was so amazed by what Maggies offers that I decided to stop back on my way home for take out. I purchased the el chenero corn taco (don't remember how to spell it, but was so incredibly tender and flavorful, that it truly does amaze me) and a couple barbacoa corn tacos. I also ordered the avacoda salad for takout and I watched Maggie herself make it! Thank you Maggie for bringing such a wonderful authentic place to Grand Rapids. If you are on the fence of trying this out, do not hesitate! You will love it!

bleh. What a disappointment. With great reviews on Yelp and located just down the road from where I live I was hoping for new spot to frequent. The interior was fine, about as clean as one would expect from an authentic mexican restaurant located on bridge. After we ordered we were completely forgotten about. Which since we were the only people in there was a little odd. Eventually we found someone to get us our order. I ordered 5 different tacos for my wife and I, there wasn't a single taco that was good. The chicken was bland and dry. The steak was the same. The pork roja was just terrible. The salsas were bland. I think the chips were the only good thing about this place. Another weird thing about this place. I (usually) don't care about a businesses' political leanings, but when a place goes out of their way to display them its hard to not take notice. With bad food, bad service, and proudly displayed political leanings different from my own I will not be back. I'd suggest going down bridge a couple blocks to Tacos El Ganadero, or across the street to Little Mexico Cafe when the open back up.

The food was excellent! Fresh soft tortillas filled with quality ingredients. Everything we sampled was delicious and authentic. I tried the Pollo Burrito and the Pollo Torta. Both were fantastic and I highly recommend a side of salsa verde, it's wonderful with great heat and flavor. Prices were more than fair here too!!!

Good, authentic Mexican food. Nothing fancy. Will definitely come back next time I'm in GR.

Authentic, quick, yummy. Maggie's hits the spot for any lunch day. Not on the menu, but the best bet there, pollo and chorizo torta (just ask nicely...they'll oblige). The chicken is juicy, the chorizo is far from greasy and loaded with flavor. The guacamole is good to share, but could use a bit more salt (easily added ourselves). Get here before 12:00pm to avoid a long line--but even then, the staff works hard to get you fed ASAP. And if you're into this sort of thing...splurge on the Mexican Coke or your preferred flavor of Jarritos.

Stopped in at lunch today and realized I wasn't the only one excited to visit this neighborhood gem. Located on the corner of Stocking and Bridge, you can't miss the big "Maggies" sign, across from what will be the new Harmony Brewing location(on the west side of GR). This mom and pop type restaurant is spacious and bright with Mexican influences everywhere. Had I decided to eat in the restaurant instead of getting to-go, there would have been plenty of tables. I jumped in line and ordered a dry chicken burrito with a side of pineapple soda. Given that I came at the peak of the lunch rush, my wait was about 15 minutes, which really isn't so bad especially since the food is so tasty. My burrito was about medium size and the chicken was moist and tender with a hint of seasoning. Maggie's is a great option for standard Mexican-American fare as well as some spicier and more adventurous plates for those who like authentic tastes. Can't wait to stop back in!

I think the lack of quality ingredients at Maggie's continues to keep them from being what I would consider a quality authentic mexican restaurant. We're fortunate to have as many great real deal mexican restaurants in GR this unfortunately is not one of them. The staff are friendly, the area is ok during the day. * I think a lot of these reviews aren't legit...

Not impressed with this place. I had the huevos con chorizo and potatoes plate and I've had better. I do like the decor and some of the historic posters and religious pieces.

Best authentic Mexican food in Grand Rapids. Avoid it if you prefer plain ground beef with a big pile of cheese, because that's not exactly what Maggie's has. Perfect lunch = a chorizo torta. Not much more to even say. An authentic torta? Sign me up, case closed. Get over the "sketchy" area and your confusion about the establishment (it's not Americanized, oh no!) and order yourself some tasty treats.

One of the top 3 Mexican restaurants in G.R. Top quality good food without all the grease and fat you can sometimes find. Certainly authentic.

Very authentic and extremely affordable. Solid portions too. Most importantly, very delicious. Had the Huevos con chorizo y papas plate (eggs, chorizo and potato) that also came with rice, beans and fresh, tasty corn tortillas. Also grabbed a bite of the wet burrito and this is what a wet burrito should always taste like. Fresh ingredients and a job well done mixing it all together. The service was excellent too. Nice people who appreciated the patrons.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
